DUNFERMLINE’S young musical talent will show off their abilities as part of an event to launch a stage area on the town’s High Street.

The facility has already been used on several occasions and has helped boost footfall in the centre.

The up-and-coming musicians launched the stage officially on Saturday with performances taking place all afternoon.

The idea for the stage was developed after Greenspace Scotland engaged with young people and local organisations on a consultation paper looking at ideas to improve specific areas of Dunfermline.

One of the ideas they came up with was a performance area in the High Street gap site that could be used for outdoor music and events.

Central Dunfermline Community Council worked with Greenspace Scotland, Youth 1st, Fairway Fife and Headroom to deliver and install the High Street Stage.

The project has now been shortlisted for Scottish Quality Awards in Planning.

The stage is free, and available for busking and impromptu events.

Chris Foote, of Dunfermline Delivers, said: “The High Street is a great asset to have right in the middle of town. We plan to utilise it for many future events and would also encourage others to use it more.”

Jim Stewart, chair of Central Dunfermline Community council, added: “2018 is the Year of Youth and Young People, and to celebrate this, we have planned an outdoor event that will essentially ‘launch’ the stage, with a line-up of Dunfermline’s young musical talent.”
