IT’S a day he’s always dreamed of, seeing his beloved Pars on top of Europe, and for one die-hard fan it all came true.

Graham Creech hit the heights with Dunfermline Athletic when he scaled Mont Blanc, and took the club’s flag with him.

And while the team are currently meandering around the foothills of the Scottish Championship, for a while his head was in the clouds with the famous black and white flying proudly at the continent’s summit.

Graham, a life-long Pars fan, laughed: “Only time will tell whether I see the Pars on top of Europe again.

“If only Andrew Carnegie was alive today, he was the world’s richest man, the Pars would have probably won the Champions League six times by now!”

Graham and his wife Joanne conquered Western Europe’s tallest mountain to mark her 40th birthday in style.

They made their way to the top of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps at 4,810 metres, and braved freezing temperatures to drop their gloves and unfurl the Dunfermline flag packed tightly in their backpack.

The 45-year-old bank worker said the once-in-a-lifetime trip was a great way to celebrate Joanne’s birthday, but admitted it was tougher than they had expected.

The expedition involved a three-day training and acclimatisation hike as they climbed glaciers between France and Switzerland. The couple then began the three-day ascent of Mont Blanc, with blistering cold winds greeting them at the top.

Graham said: “We wanted to push ourselves to do this now before we get too old! We’ve also got two young girls, so we knew we would need to be very careful.

“We were wearing very warm layers but I have never experienced cold like it at the top. The weather was so bad. It was absolutely freezing.

“I had to take the Pars flag out of my bag, but I couldn’t feel my fingers at all. It was horrendous.

“We were delighted to reach the top though and look out to see France on one side of you, and Italy on the other. There were people from all over the world climbing, so it felt good to be representing Scotland.”
