A TALENTED West Fife singer travelled thousands of miles to perform at the ‘other’ Carnegie Hall – in New York City.

Former Queen Anne High pupil Leah Duncan-Karrim has taken to the stage of the sister venue in Dunfermline on numerous occasions and has now chalked up a unique double after going stateside.

She was singing at the original Carnegie Hall, the famous venue in midtown Manhattan that opened in 1891, on Monday with the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS).

They are taking part in a five day tour of the Big Apple and proud mum Fionna said Leah, 19, was thrilled to be part of such an exciting venture.

“They have to re-audition every year and this is the third time she has got in – she missed one year because she went to China for a year,” she explained.

“She is totally excited about it. They are staying in a hotel right next to the Carnegie Hall and just a short walk to Central Park.

“They are doing a few concerts with the main one at the Carnegie Hall and then she will also be going to Paris with them next year.”

During her time with the NYCoS, Leah, who is studying Chinese at Edinburgh University, has performed at a variety of venues and occasions.

Fionna added: “They did the opening piece at the Edinburgh Festival in the Usher Halls and one of their performances was played on a screen in the Albert Hall. That was a new piece of work written for the Armistice.

“She was down in London last weekend with the choir to do rehearsals with the orchestra who are playing with them in New York.”

Soprano Leah first started singing in P5 at Townhill Primary when she won a Burns Competition and, while at high school, she was a regular in the Fife Festival of Music.
