THERE’S a celebration of life with a Day of the Dead event in Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries on Saturday.

A carnival atmosphere is planned for the Dia de los Muertos – inspired by the Mexican holiday where family and friends gather to remember those who have passed on – to tie in with Hallowe’en sessions.

Sharron Brown, service development officer for ONFife Libraries, said: “Our take on Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of culture, customs, colour and the cycle of life.

“Drop in between 12.30pm and 3.30pm and we’ll be making top hats, decorating sugar skull boxes and making the colourful marigold flowers, as well as your fiesta snacks, and all for £5 per child.”

If you don’t get a ticket there are still lots of free activities on the day with stories, colouring-in and face painting in the children’s library.

There’s also a Sugar Skull trail around the library and fancy dress competitions – it promises to be fabuloso!

ONFife venues will be hosting various other events in the run up to Halloween, including a talk about The Witches of West Fife at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries on Saturday October 27 and A Taste of Cheese Wine and Horror in the same venue on Friday November 2.

It offers a night to relax, sip wine, eat tasty cheese and get the pants scared off you with a selection of scary book readings. From gentle ghost stories and classic vampires to a thoroughly modern take on the horror genre, they’ve trawled the blood-soaked pages of horror writing to bring you a taste of the very best.
