A FORMER Black Watch soldier who spat on a police officer has been jailed for six months.

Paul Haughian had been taken to Dunfermline Police Station and became aggressive whilst he was being processed for custody at about 8.20pm.

He spat on the face and chest of one officer and was then put in leg restraints and placed in a cell. In a separate charge, he was found in the company of his former partner even though he was subject to a non-harassment order.

Haughian, 32, of Leadburn Avenue, Wellwood, previously admitted that on August 19 at Dunfermline Police Station, he assaulted a police sergeant then in the execution of his duty and spat on his head and body.

Also, being subject to a non-harassment order made on February 23 and required to refrain from contacting, communicating or approaching his former partner, he did on August 19 at an address in Dunfermline attend at her home, spend time in her company and communicate with her.

Defence solicitor Gwen Haggerty said: “He is disgusted with himself. He served in the Black Watch until 2010 and he is horrified that he could behave in such a manner.”

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard that Haughian has previous convictions for domestic violence.

“The couple have been on and off for a number of years and have three children together,” Ms Haggerty added.

“That has now ended but they are happy to be in each other’s company. They seem to be co-parenting despite the fact they are not supposed to have contact.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry revoked an order Haughian was currently on and jailed him for six months.
