NORTH QUEENSFERRY could soon have four live-saving defibrillators in case of an emergency.

The village’s community council has submitted a planning application to Fife Council to install one of the vital pieces of kit on Battery Road at the bus stop next to the Albert Hotel.

By the time it is installed, there are likely to be three more devices around the village.

Community Council secretary David Shields said the defibrillators could help residents and tourists alike.

“The Heritage Trust has installed one at the train station, the community centre is putting one there and the Community Trust is putting one at West Bay anytime now and the Community Council has an application in for one at Battery Road,” he explained.

“Although there are only 1,000 people living here, we get quite a few visitors. We have had a mixture of fundraising for it and there are backers like Deep Sea World for this one as well.

“As part of the roll-out, we are hoping also to organise some training sessions as well.”

Fall victim to a cardiac arrest – and 30,000 people do each year in the UK – and the vital spark from the small, portable defibrillator device can be the difference between life and death.

A defibrillator can deliver an electric shock to try to restore a normal heart rhythm and bring the casualty back from the dead.

The Press launched our Take Heart campaign back in August 2015 when we called for Public Access Defibrillators to be placed in the town centre, resulting in three additional devices being placed in locations on the High Street.
