A REDUCED service at GP practices in Dunfermline due to IT upgrades will be a “big issue” for patients.

Three surgeries will operate an emergency only system for two days due to computer upgrades NHS Fife described as "crucial".

Practice manager Susan Reid, of Hospital Hill Surgery, said: “We won’t be able to see routine patients, make appointments or process prescriptions, which is a big issue for people in Dunfermline.

"The impact is that we cannot access medical records, therefore no medical history or medication records for patients.

“We will have to operate an emergency only system which is not easy either.”

NHS Fife medical director, Dr Frances Elliot, said: “Three medical practices in Dunfermline - Hospital Hill, Millhill and Bellyeoman - will shortly be upgrading essential computer systems.

“This work is crucial in enabling practice staff to continue to access vital clinical systems and has been already carried out in medical practices across Fife, including New Park and Nethertown practices in Dunfermline.

“All three practices will remain open whilst this work is carried out, however, they will be providing a reduced service for a period of two days.

"Clinical staff will remain within practices to triage calls and emergency surgeries are being held for those who require urgent assessment.”

All three practices will provide a reduced service for two days. Hospital Hill will be affected on October 25-26, Millhill on October 30-31 and Bellyeoman on November 1-2.
