DUNFERMLINE woman Anne Kent has given herself the title of "bionic woman" after having both hips and both knees replaced since August last year.

The operations followed her shedding four stones after much of her adult life had been spent battling obesity, early onset of arthritis and chronic disc disease.

Inspired by her own success, she decided to become an accredited Cambridge Weight Plan consultant in 2015 and worked part-time helping others lose weight while also doing a nursing degree.

However, she was forced to abandon her studies within several months as severe pain in her knees and hips resulted in her becoming practically housebound.

With the help of husband Peter, who had to give up work to become her full-time carer and also become a weight plan consultant, she was able to continue with her part-time role.

Peter has had to help her downstairs to see clients and make up orders before carrying her back up to bed when she had finished but she was grateful to have her small business to keep her sane while her body was slowly giving up on her.

After a year of doctor referrals and scans, Anne had the hip and knee replacements – with the final one only being done six weeks ago.

"The last two years have been the the best years of my life as it has taught me that, no matter what, health comes first," she said.

"I use my own experience and determination to inspire clients to keep going no matter what.

"I am getting there – the last joint replacement was just six weeks ago so I am still walking with a stick just now but have managed one or two short journeys without, which is the first time in two years."

Anne and Peter have spent the last four months working hard to get the message out about what they can do to help others and have seen their business almost triple in size.

"We are growing and growing and it has been quite amazing," added Anne. "We are hoping to look for premises in Dunfermline early next year as we now have another three consultants as part of our team."
