TWO men have been charged by police in connection with a deliberate fire at the former Inverkeithing Primary School.

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 19-year-old, and a 20-year-old, are due to appear in court next month in relation to last Monday's incident.

Fire crews raced to the scene at Roods Road at around 9.20pm as a blaze ripped through the building, with nine engines and up to 40 firefighters called out.

Emergency services remained at the scene for several hours tackling the fire and, although there were no casualties, one woman was taken to hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation.

In addition, a third man, aged 20, has also been arrested in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan, from Dunfermline CID, said: “Our inquiries remain ongoing and I would like to thank those members of the public who have assisted us during our inquiries so far.

“A number of emergency services personnel were required to deal with this incident and it caused a huge amount of damage to the building.

“The two men are scheduled to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court in December.”
