A DUNFERMLINE man stole goods from a supermarket after having his bank card declined at a self-service counter.

As a result, Paul Haldane, 41, of Skibo Court, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on February 23, at Asda, St Leonards Street, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of food items and alcohol.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said Haldane was seen on CCTV at the self-service check-out scanning items but after his bank card was declined he left without paying.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “He had been drinking before this. He thinks his card was declined and he then simply left without paying.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Haldane £200 and ordered him to pay compensation £54.46, the cost of the items stolen.
