HIGH VALLEYFIELD got into the festive spirit last weekend at the village’s Christmas lights switch-on.

Five-year-old Holly Fyfe and seven-year-old William Bird were the lucky youngsters who got to do the honours after their names were pulled out of a hat by Co-op staff.

The community then carried on with the celebrations with a disco to kick-off the festive season in style.

Rab MacKenzie, chair of Valleyfield Heritage Project, who organised the event, said: “It went really well. There was a great turnout by everyone in the community.

“The disco was also well attended by both kids and adults too! There was a full house.

“Santa came and we gave out some nice treats.

“It was a chance to get the community together and we managed to get a gap in the rainy weather last week to stay dry!”

Instead of spending £600 on a tree, the group this year bought a permanent one and used the money to put on a disco instead.

Rab added: “I would like to thank Fife Council and High Valleyfield Community Council who gave us funding, as well as the Valleyfield Co-op, Canary Canteen and staff from the community club, who made it a great night.”
