BIG-HEARTED West Fifers have raised a massive £50,680 for the Scottish Poppy appeal.

The cash, along with a percentage of £46,733 in Poppyscotland merchandise sold, will go directly to helping veterans and their families across the country.

The amount includes donations from a Go Fund Me appeal set up after the theft of two poppy tins from Dunfermline Abbey, which raised £470.

The charity’s area organiser, Christine Evans, said: “This year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal was even busier than usual and there was added interest given that 2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War.

"As ever, the public were incredibly supportive and dug deep for Poppyscotland, and I would like to thank everyone for their generosity.

"None of this would have been possible without my fabulous army of volunteers and the support of the business community.”
