A LIMEKILNS woman who was found guilty of driving a car when she was almost five times over the limit has been sentenced.

Clare Leonelli, 54, of Sandilands, had denied she had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.

Concerns were raised over her erratic driving in a shop’s car park in Rosyth, where she struck the kerb.

CCTV from the store was shown at her trial at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and appeared to show her swaying about in the aisles.

Leonelli claimed she did not drink until she went home and that she had knocked back a litre of wine in 30 minutes before the police arrived at her door.

Leonelli was found guilty of a charge that on August 11, in Unwin Avenue, Rosyth and Limekilns, she drove having consumed excess alcohol.

Her reading was 118 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Leonelli had been spotted striking the kerb outside the Sainsbury store in Rosyth by a concerned couple in their car and police were contacted with her registration number.

A second call was also received by police about her driving from someone in Limekilns.

When police attended at her home, Leonelli told officers she had not been drinking since she returned home from the shop shortly before.

However, her story changed in court when she claimed she had downed a full bottle of wine and another which was a third-full.

Sheriff Charles MacNair did not believe her evidence and found her guilty.

When Leonelli returned to court for sentencing, the sheriff imposed a community payback order with 12 months’ supervision and 200 hours of unpaid work. She was also banned from driving for 30 months.
