A DUNFERMLINE woman has been jailed for stealing four cans of beer from Marks and Spencer in the High Street.

Serial offender Laura Brearley, 33, of James Street, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She admitted that on November 12, at Marks and Spencer, High Street, Dunfermline, she stole a quantity of alcohol.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said the value of the stolen goods was £8.

“She was seen on security cameras taking a number of cans and placing them in her bag and leaving without paying for them,” he added.

Brearley was stopped by the centre’s security officers and handed over the cans before walking away.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said: “She does not wish to be considered for any community-based sentence. She feels she’s not in any position to comply. She wishes to take her medicine, so to speak.

“Her previous convictions are aplenty.” He added there had been a background of long-term heroin misuse.

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Brearley: “You have a truly dreadful record of similar offending.” He jailed her for 100 days.
