A DUNFERMLINE nightclub’s licence hours have been extended over the Christmas period despite opposition from police.

An application was made for extended hours to be granted at Life, at Kirkgate.

Not all dates were granted but, during the festive period, opening hours at the club will go well past the normal two in the morning curfew most nights.

Police said extending the hours would cause “undue public nuisance”.

Fife’s Licensing Board agreed opening hours will be until 4am on December 13-16, December 20-26 and December 28-January 2.

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone said: “There are no other nightclubs or bars currently licensed until these hours and I am of the opinion that granting this application would set a precedent which other licensed premises in Dunfermline would likely seek to replicate, causing undue public nuisance in the town centre area at a time when police resources are already stretched during the festive period.”

Life said the extended hours were intended so they could host a live DJ and live band events in the build-up to Christmas.

Mr Livingston made further objections saying there was a lack of information provided in respect of any potential special events.

“I believe that this is not a legitimate application and is merely to facilitate one-hour extra trading during the month of December.”
