IT WAS a case of mum knows best for one High Valleyfield woman this week after hearing her little tot had won the Press’ Bonnie Baby Competition.

Nicola Brewer was thrilled to discover her daughter, Lacey Prentice, had won our popular contest but admitted that it was her mum, Liz Clark, who suggested they should take part.

“She sent me the picture and said, ‘Put that in the paper’,” said an excited Nicola, of Chapel Street. “It was her who encouraged me to put it in.

“I am so happy. It is the best news ever. She is happy, bubbly, funny, just the happiest wee girl. She is always smiling.”

Lacey, who will be two in March, captured the attention of voters with her cute smile and it was certainly an early Christmas present for the family to hear that she had scooped the title.

“I asked everybody – everyone at my wee boy’s school, friends, family. I was asking them all to give me their tokens to save them having to send them in. I am so happy.

“She has a big brother, Ryan, who is six. He is going to be really proud.

“I have been putting posts on Facebook for friends and family to buy the paper and vote for her. I have had likes and people messaging me and saying she is definitely the winner and she is so cute. She is a wee charmer.”

Nicola and partner Rob Prentice, of Chapel Street, are now looking forward to celebrating Christmas with their little winner and her big brother Ryan and plan to put Lacey’s £300 prize away for the future.

“We are really looking forward to Christmas with her this year – she will be into everything,” she added. “She will enjoy it. She won’t quite understand it but she will get to open the presents and will know what something is.

“I think I will put the money in her savings and it will be there for her. It is her money and she can do something with it when she is older.”
