'MINDLESS' vandals celebrated the start of 2019 by setting a fire in a play area at a Dunfermline and West Fife school.

A wheelie bin was set alight in an outdoor woodland learning spot at Canmore Primary School in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The fire just after midnight is the second to take place at the school during the Christmas holidays.

Fire crews were also called out to the school on December 27 for another bin fire.

Local residents were left shocked, with one stating, "these yobs have no respect for other people's property".

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 12.37am on Thursday, December 27 and at 12.19am on Wednesday, January 2 to wheelie bin fires in Dunfermline.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine on both occasions to Evershed Drive where firefighters extinguished the fires.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
