BUS ticket prices to Edinburgh Airport have risen for West Fife holidaymakers this year.

Stagecoach have announced that standard fares have increased on their JET747 service.

However, discounted fares for airport workers have been frozen and a return ticket for accompanied under-16s has been cut to just £1.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: "For those adult travellers who have seen an increase in price, the rates remain very low in comparison to the cost of airport parking and reflect some of the increased costs of providing the service and the confirmed free parking at Halbeath and Ferrytoll park & ride sites.

"Having invested heavily in the past two years to deliver new vehicles, improved frequencies, contactless payment and a 24-hour service, we are confident that the JET747 continues to offer great value for money."

The 747 airport bus stops at Halbeath Park & Ride, Inverkeithing Railway Station, Ferrytoll Park & Ride, Ingliston Park & Ride and finally outside the terminal at Edinburgh Airport.

Under new fares that were introduced on Monday, an adult single and day return have both increased by £1 to £7.50 and £10, respectively.

An adult period return (within 28 days) ticket has been bumped up from £12 to £14.

The bus operator says families are going to benefit from their new fare revision.

They said: “The JET747 fare structure has been revised to reflect the changing demands upon the service.

"Our standard fares have increased, however, the discounted fares for Edinburgh Airport employees have been frozen and fares for accompanied under-16s have been reduced to just £1 return.

"Those aged 16 to 18 can continue to get a one-third discount on the adult single fare when presenting a Young Scot card to the driver and for regular travellers, the cost of our Fife megarider, weekly and four-weekly tickets, also remains unchanged.

"This means those commuting to Edinburgh Airport are unaffected while a typical family heading off on holiday will be paying over 15 per cent less (based on two adults and two children) now than they did previously."

The remaining new fares are as follows: under-16 single: £3.80; under-16 day return: £5; under-16 period return: £7; Young Scot single: £5; Student single: £5.
