A DUNFERMLINE schoolboy has been placed on the sex offenders’ register.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted downloading indecent images of children at his home in Dunfermline.
The offence took place on July 19 and the youth has now been sentenced at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
Defence solicitor Russel McPhate raised concerns that restrictions on his client using the internet and social media would “make it unduly difficult for him to do homework”.
The youth was found to be in possession of 26 illegal images.
Sheriff James MacDonald said: “He entered into a chat room where these images were stored and admits it was for sexual gratification.”
The sheriff imposed a community payback order with 18 months’ supervision and 160 hours of unpaid work.
