FUNDRAISERS in Dalgety Bay are hoping their efforts to beat cancer will soon reach the million-pound mark and they are using Lochore Meadows Country Park to boost their coffers .

Organisers have been raising money for Cancer Research for the last 13 years with their annual Relay for Life event.

Family, friends and work colleagues work all year round in an inspirational team fundraising challenge.

Then an overnight challenge in the summer teams walk around a race track non-stop for 24 hours.

In a bid to boost funds organisers are putting on a new event called 'Twilight Walk Fife 2019'.

It will be a chance for those who maybe can't commit to such a challenge as the Relay For Life to still get involved and do their bit.

Lochore Meadows on February 17 will involve for a 5km walk around the loch followed by a Candle of Hope ceremony to remember those who are fighting cancer or who are no longer with us.

All funds will go towards ground-breaking research at the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Centre.

Laura Cornforth, chair of the Dalgety Bay Relay for Life committee, said: "In the next couple of years we'll be reaching for the £1 million mark.

"Over the last 13 years we've raised about £892,000 so it's very exciting that we're getting towards that milestone.

"We thought we'd just try something different with another event in the year and raise as much as money as possible.

"We want to open the event up to more people who might not be able to commit to the relay in the summer but hopefully it will give some a taste of what's like too."

Registration for adults is £10, £5 for 12-16-year olds and under 12s are free. Register at www.cancerresearchuk.org/get-involved/find-an-event/twilight-walk-fife-2019
