HEARTS were racing at Dunfermline’s Park Run on Saturday as one athletic couple prepared to tie the knot.

Carnegie Harriers Colin Reynolds and Lesley Halstead took part in the weekly event – complete with kilt and veil – before their wedding at the City Chambers later that day.

The couple, who live in Crossford, celebrated their first date eight years ago by running more than 50 miles together so felt it apt that their shared passion should play a part in their big day.

Colin, 48, explained: “Our first date was a 53-mile run along the West Highland Way. By the end of the day, we had run for 12 hours and had found someone as mental as each other.

“It was a race called the Highland Fling and it starts in Milngavie and was an epic adventure for us. We ran through some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery but all we did was talk to each other and look at each other.”

Lesley, 50, added: “We had an amazing day and the run was really good.

“A lot of people came from Carnegie Harriers and our best man and some of the family came along and ran as well – everyone was congratulating us all the way round.

“We must have looked a bit strange to people going past as we even ran to the park.

“Running is a huge part of our lives. We just wanted to include people who were not able to make it to the wedding so it was a pre-wedding celebration.”
