POLICE were called after a Dunfermline man drove into a closed fuel station with a shredded tyre, a smashed window and a cut eye.

The incident led to Blair Agnew, 37, of Westwood Place, appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

He previously admitted that on July 18, in Turnstone Road, Dunfermline, he drove a car when unfit through drink or drugs.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that, at 2am, two Tesco workers heard a loud noise coming from a vehicle.

They saw a car with no headlights on being driven into the forecourt of the Tesco petrol station.

Agnew drove into a car wash area, there was oil coming from his vehicle and it had a burst tyre.

He tried to change the tyre and was told the petrol station was closed. Staff noticed that his speech was slurred and the tyre was shredded.

At 2.50am, police arrived and saw that the window of the driver’s door was smashed.

Officers saw that Agnew had a cut to his ear, blood on his hands and his speech was slurred.

There was a negative reading on a breath test but at the police station, a blood specimen was taken and found to contain cocaine, amphetamine and other substances.

Agnew, who was representing himself, said: “I can’t remember much about it. I’d gone off the rails and I’m really sorry. I’m just glad I didn’t hurt anybody.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair fined Agnew £400 and banned him from driving for a year.
