FIRE crews were called out to a Dunfermline school after yet another bin fire.

Vandals set one alight outside St Leonard's Primary School on Thursday night last week.

A spokeswoman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 7.50pm on Thursday, February 7, to reports of a bin fire in Dunfermline.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine to St Leonard's Street where firefighters extinguished the fire involving a wheelie bin.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

It is the latest in a spate of wheelie bin fires in the Dunfermline and West Fife area.

Youths shouted abuse at 999 workers as they tried to tackle a blaze at St Serf's Primary School in High Valleyfield last month.

Police made an appeal for witnesses and the South West Fife Police Twitter account branded their behaviour on January 12 as "not acceptable".

Two people have been charged with police assault and breach of the peace in connection to the incident.

"Mindless" vandals had also previously celebrated the start of 2019 by setting a fire in a play area at Canmore Primary School in Dunfermline.

The fire was started in an outdoor woodland learning spot at the school on January 2, the second fire at the building over the Christmas holidays.

It came just days after fire crews were called out to the school on December 27 for a similar incident.

Local councillor Kate Stewart said: "There seems to be a trend happening with young people and wheelie bins not just in this area but around Fife. The concerning bit is they are endangering themselves – they don't know what is in these bins and they could be left marked and hurt."
