SENIOR detectives say villagers in Gowkhall "will be outraged" after an 80-year-old woman was robbed in her own home.

In what police described as a "terrifying ordeal", the gang of five broke into her home around midnight last night (Thursday).

The woman, who has been left "deeply upset" by the ordeal, was at home when five men, with faces partially-covered, forced entry and began searching the property before stealing a quantity of jewellery, including a gold Rolex watch.

The suspects then made off from the area and the victim contacted police.

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Detective Inspector Graham Fenton said: "This has been an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the elderly homeowner who is deeply upset and is being supported by our officers.

"I believe the local Gowkhall community will be outraged by what has happened here and I would urge local residents who remember seeing any suspicious to contact us immediately.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relating to this incident should also get in touch."

Those with information are asked to contact Dunfermline CID via 101 and quote incident number 074 of the 22nd February. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
