DUNFERMLINE is soon to become the place to be as "one of Scotland's hottest live music venues" is set to open.

With ambitions to have 150 gigs over the next 12 months, a large transformation has taken place at one of the town's busiest nightspots.

And in the next few weeks, 1703 Dunfermline will be open for business in Bruce Street.

A "significant investment" has been made by new owners David Stein Butchers as they take control of the Collective building on 29-35 Bruce Street.

It currently features Harlem nightclub, Dine at 29 and Rooms at 29, and is set to welcome 1703 Dunfermline soon.

General manager Iain Meiklejohn explained: "We've been hands-on with the redevelopment and the transformation is almost complete.

"We're aiming to open 1703 in the next few weeks.

"We're going to have two bars in the front half upstairs and one will be one of the best cocktail bars in Scotland.

"We want to stop people going over the bridge to Edinburgh and give the people of Fife what they want."

The venue is aiming to replicate the success David Stein Butchers have had at their sister locations in Bathgate, Bo'ness and Linlithgow.

Iain continued: "We will be open from 7am each morning until late evening, offering a fantastic café bar-style food menu, excellent drink offering, amazing cocktails and live music.

"1703 will be a hive of fantastic local products and amazing hospitality. Owning a butchers gives us a fantastic opportunity to deliver the very best in Scottish meat.

"We will pride ourselves on our team and the way we deal with our guests.

"It'll be table-led, so they won't have to get up unless it's for the toilet or for dancing!"

Offering various genres of music and shows is a key part of their plans, and Iain says they have the room to be ambitious.

"We're going to have local artists as well as large ticketed shows," he said.

"We have the room to be theatrical. We can have proper show bands and acts and create a real, magic atmosphere in the place.

"Dunfermline town centre is absolutely fantastic for live music. We hope to offer something different and expand on what the town centre is currently offering with this larger venue.

"We want to be a part of what's happening here and want to help the town continue to flourish like it has been."

The nightclub in the building is set to reopen on March 2.
