MP DOUGLAS CHAPMAN has thrown his weight behind our Press, Take, Action! campaign to “help ease some of the pain” faced by West Fife film-goers.

The Press has discovered it costs more to watch the latest big release in Dunfermline than anywhere else in Scotland and is calling for the Odeon to cut prices at its Dunfermline multiplex with our new campaign.

Mr Chapman has sent a letter to the chief executive of Odeon cinemas calling on the screen giant to slash their “unfair pricing” in Dunfermline.

He told the Press this week that he doesn’t want to see local families ripped off at the flicks, and commented: “I realise the Odeon is a business and they have to make a profit but I think they’re being really unfair.

“There’s really good films in cinemas right now, and I would encourage people to go and see them on the big screen.

“They do say that these days people are glued to their phones and the small screen but nothing beats seeing the latest blockbuster on the big screen. And it would be great to see if we can help make cinema-goers in Dunfermline and West Fife pay a fairer price in the future.

“If money is shaved off ticket prices, I think that can be viewed as a win.

“We want a better deal for families in Dunfermline and West Fife and for the Odeon to rethink their planning structure.

“It would help ease some of the pain cinema-goers in the area feel having to pay more than the rest of Scotland.

“I can understand people feeling despondent on having to pay more than the going rate in Scotland.

“For the average family of four, it gets to the point where the whole cinema experience with drinks, popcorn and sweets, becomes quite expensive.

“The bottom line is that a night at the cinema is a great experience but it has to be affordable. I don’t want Dunfermline and West Fife families being ripped off.”

In his letter to chief executive Mark Way, the Dunfermline and West Fife MP invited him for a meeting to discuss the cinema’s pricing structure.

He said: “Visiting the cinema remains a popular recreational activity for many Scots, and in Dunfermline and West Fife we are ‘Fanatical About Film’, but not so keen on your prices.

“With the Odeon Dunfermline the only mainstream cinema within a 12-mile radius, it appears that cinema-goers in my constituency are being subjected to unfair pricing in a market of limited choice.

“Any steps you can take which would offer fairer and more transparent pricing would undoubtedly be widely welcomed by my constituents and many other cinema-goers in Fife.”

He told the Press other businesses at Fife Leisure Park could thrive from cheaper tickets at the Odeon.

“That’s another reason why I want to help make this happen,” Mr Chapman said. “I think once pricing changes are made by the Odeon, we’ll then see a spin-off from that.”
