TWO West Fife Tesco workers are to feature in special Mother’s Day cards to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Pam Winchurst, who works in Dalgety Bay, and Julie Stokes, from the Dunfermline town centre store, have had their personal stories and photographs included on the card.

As well as raising money for the charity, it is hoped the cards and their stories will connect with, and support, other people affected by the disease.

Tesco has backed Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life for 18 years and both Pam and Julie have both previously taken part with their colleagues.

Pam said: “I started doing the race because it made me feel that I was doing my bit to help and I loved meeting all the people taking part and hearing their stories.

“Then, over the years, more friends and family have been affected by cancer. Six years ago, my colleague, Tina, asked me sign up because she wanted to do her part and then three months later she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“She did her third and final race in 2015 and crossed the line to huge applause. Since then we’ve lost three colleagues to cancer – most recently Rachel lost her battle with pancreatic cancer just a few months ago.

“She was only 34 and fought so hard. She did so much charity work right until the end and we will be running this year with heavy hearts but immense pride remembering her.”

Julie added: “My sister and I both lost our best friends the space of four weeks in 2007. I’d already been taking part in Race For Life every year until then but losing them really spurred us on to try and raise even more money.

“We run to help fund research and if we keep focusing on the future we’ll hopefully one day find a cure.” Julie and Pam will receive a special framed version of their cards from Hallmark, who designed them, Tesco and Cancer Research UK to thank them for sharing their stories.

Sarah Pickersgill, head of events marketing for Cancer Research UK, added: “We are very grateful to Julie, Pam and Tesco for their support. By following their lead, and joining the Race for Life, everyone can make a real difference to people with cancer, right now.”

The Mother’s Day cards are on sale in large Tesco stores until March 31.
