THERE will be traffic delays and tailbacks from Monday with roadworks starting in Inverkeithing and Low Valleyfield.

Fife Council have apologised in advance and said the two jobs to resurface the carriageways will cost a total of £157,000.

Work on King Street in Inverkeithing will be carried out in phases with a road closure in place from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day from Commercial Road to Alma Street.

The second phase will be from Heriot Street to Commercial Road with a one-way system in place between Heriot Street and Alma Street and three-way traffic lights to ensure access to Commercial Road and King Street car park.

There will be traffic restrictions in place from 9.30am to 4.30pm until this phase is finished and the car park will remain open throughout.

A diversion will be in place, via Boreland Road and the B981, with the roadworks expected to last for a week and cost £47,000.

The resurfacing job on the Main Street in Low Valleyfield is scheduled to last for up to two weeks and cost £110,000.

To carry out the work safely the road will be closed from the junction with the B9037 to the junction with Low Causeway in Culross.

A diversion will be in place via the B9037 and bus services to the village will be affected – you can service information by calling Stagecoach on 01592 645680 or visiting www.stagecoachbus.com.

The council said that, for both jobs, there will be access for emergency vehicles but access for residents and businesses will be at the discretion of the contractor.

Councillor Altany Craik, transportation spokesman, said: “We maintain over 2,400km of roads in Fife and we are spending nearly £8 million this year repairing and improving them.

“Our road network is vital to support economic development, inward investment, tourism, leisure and travel to work. Almost everyone in Fife uses our roads on a daily basis, which is why this type of maintenance work is so essential.”

He added: "We apologise for any inconvenience and delay caused by these essential works, and we will try to keep any disturbance to a minimum. Your patience and co-operation during this time is greatly appreciated.”
