DUNFERMLINE has hit the jackpot as Carlton Bingo carry out a £2 million investment at Fife Leisure Park.

The popular attraction is currently receiving a multi-million improvement in a bid to "modernise" the bingo hall and improve its atmosphere.

The purpose-built facility opened in 2005, and Mike Watret, operations director, told the Press that its customers will see a big difference.

"This is a real positive for the club," he said.

"The bingo industry has been downsizing in recent years, and accommodating the needs of customers.

"The number of seats is being reduced from 2,005 to 1,000. It's a huge hall to fill, so that will help improve the atmosphere inside it.

"Electrical bingo – on tablets, for example – has also become a lot more popular in recent years, especially with our younger customers, so we've adapted to that in recent years, too.

"We're also creating a chat room space with a dedicated bar.

"It's going to be a sound-proof area where people can listen to music and watch TV and more. There are no age restrictions as it will be open to anyone to use.

"It will be the fourth we've opened and everywhere else has proved to be very popular, especially with younger customers."

He added that the space will also be used for live music, featuring local bands, as well as a venue for open mic nights, karaoke and quizzes.

"It allows us to offer something different to bingo later in the evenings," Mr Watret added.

"They can stay and have a drink and enjoy the rest of the night.

"The new bar will be one of two we will have available at the Dunfermline hall.

"Like many other businesses, life can be a challenge, but we're doing in Dunfermline.

"It does help being at Fife Leisure Park which is a go-to destination in the town, and probably across Fife."

Work began at the start of the year and is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Carlton Bingo's application for licensing from 11am to 11pm for their new bar will go before the Fife Licensing Board on Monday.
