TODAY (Friday) marks the end of an era at the Old Inn.

It is set to be an emotional day as the man responsible for bringing delicious burgers to the Dunfermline pub says his goodbyes.

Andy Yates is set to bid farewell after years of making the pub the place to go for a gourmet burger, attracting customers from across Scotland.

"Dunfermline, it's been a pleasure," he told the Press.

"Friday is going to be a poignant day as I say goodbye to the place.

"I expect it to be absolutely rammed and I think there will be a feeling of relief by the end of the evening as I begin a new chapter."

'Mr Meathammer' is moving to Liverpool with his burgers to work at his friend's latest venture in the city centre, and news of his departure on social media left hundreds of customers devastated, with many pleading for him to stay on.

The 46-year-old said the response left him feeling "incredibly humbled".

He said: "I never realised there was such a strong feeling towards my burgers. It's like a cult following!

"The comments have really been humbling.

"It's not a glamorous job that I've held, it's been long, hard work.

"I feel that if you love something, and you want it to be successful, you have to put the hours in and be prepared to suffer for it.

"That's what I've done.

"All the burgers are handmade to order using fresh ingredients with nothing frozen. Everything is made from scratch.

"It's been a real labour of love and I've done it from the heart.

"It's been hard to grasp the response to my burgers from people. People have travelled from all over to try them, and that does mean a lot to me.

"The comments have really made me a little speechless. I'm over the moon."

Owner Calum Miller reached out to Andy when he was working in Glasgow, and offered him the chance to bring his burgers to Dunfermline for a new challenge.

Andy added: "The burger scene was burgeoning in Glasgow and it felt like a good time for me to go.

"I think I've taken things as far as they can go in Dunfermline now, and I want to go out on a high.

"It's time to call it a day – and it's going to be a sad one – but I've loved my time in Dunfermline. It really has been a pleasure."

Calum praised Andy for his time at the Old Inn and revealed that a new menu is on its way to the pub.

He said: "The Meathammer burgers have had a great run at the old inn and we all wish Andy Yates all the best in his new adventure.

"We are very excited to welcome Steve Sharp from The Craft Kitchen to The Old Inn.

"He will bring his exciting street food concept to the pub.

"Steve has a very loyal online following and has been looking for a kitchen for the last few years and I think The Old Inn is the perfect place to let him showcase his brand of food. We hope everyone can join us soon and try out the new food."

A 50% off soft launch (no bookings) will take place next weekend, April 6/7, before the full menu launches on Wednesday, April 10.
