POLICE are hunting two men after a man was stabbed in an attempted murder in Halbeath last night.

Officers were called to an address in Fod Street following the incident, which took place at around 7.30pm, where the victim was confronted by two men within the doorway of the address.

Following an exchange between the three, one of them assaulted the 36-year-old with what has been described as a "bladed or pointed weapon", before the suspects fled the scene.

The victim was found to have sustained a serious neck injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service for treatment, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Alexander Brydon of Fife’s Criminal Investigation Department said: “This was a vicious attack which has left the victim seriously harmed.

“Thankfully the victim was quickly attended to, however the consequences of this attack could have been much more serious.

“We are eager to trace the two men involved as soon as possible. I would appeal to anyone who was in the Fod Street area of Halbeath on the evening of Monday, April 1, and saw anything suspicious, to come forward at their earliest convenience.”

Those with information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3583 of April 1, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
