FIFE COUNCIL has apologised after taxpayers were wrongly hit with reminders over unpaid council tax.
Residents who paid their bill on March 30 were shocked when they they were sent notices to make their April payment.
However, after calls from confused taxpayers, it was revealed that charges on that day failed to be processed.
Kerry Hutchison, benefits and council tax team manager, said: "We sent out text reminders to prompt people to make their April council tax payment before issuing formal reminders.
"However, following customer enquiries, it came to light that payments we received on 30 March hadn’t been processed. This has now been done and customers' accounts have been updated accordingly.
"I'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
