DEMOLITION work at Longannet continued this week as another controlled explosion was carried out.

The boiler annex east, close to the station’s iconic chimney, was ‘blown down’ on Thursday.

ScottishPower’s demolition contractor Brown & Mason, have so far removed 28,000 tonnes of material from the former power station site.

A total of 98.5% of the material has been recovered/recycled so far.

Longannet was closed in 2016, and plans are speeding up for the site to become a train manufacturing plant for Spanish company Talgo.

The Press reported exclusively last month that Talgo are pressing ahead with their £40 million investment plans.

The plant will create 1,000 direct jobs and thousands more in the surrounding West Fife area.
