A DISGRACEFUL 14 services from the capital to Fife have been cancelled today (Tuesday).

All are caused by a shortage of train crew.

Eight trains will not be departing through to Dunfermline and six will not heading through to Dalgety Bay through the course of this afternoon and evening.

Appallingly, a total of 10 services will be cancelled from South Gyle, leaving Fifers stranded at the station from 14.54 until 17.18.

Later on from 18.45 to 21.45, there will be no trains from Edinburgh to Glenrothes through Dunfermline.

Be aware that the last train from Edinburgh is also cancelled, the 23.19.

The cancellations remain largely as a result of the widely publicised challenges ScotRail faced following the late delivery of the new Class 385 and upgraded high-speed InterCity trains, industrial action, and the impact that this then had on our ability to train enough drivers and conductors on the new trains.

They say they are training drivers and conductors every day, and this will deliver continual improvements in the coming weeks and months.

The remedial agreement reached with the Scottish Government will see the recruitment of more frontline staff, with an extra 55 drivers and 30 conductors being hired during 2019.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “This has been a challenging time for Scotland’s Railway, and we’re sorry to customers who have experienced disruption to their journey.

“Everyone at the ScotRail Alliance is working flat out to provide customers with the service they deserve. We are training as many drivers and conductors as possible every day, and this will deliver continual improvements in the coming weeks and months.”
