DUNFERMLINE got double heat at the Scottish Curry Awards this week with two restaurants picking up titles.

Dhoom, in New Row, received the Best Newcomer accolade while Basil, on Carnegie Drive, received the Special Recognition Award 2019 for outstanding food and service.

The awards ceremony saw restaurants and takeaways from across Scotland recognised for their dedication to the curry industry, quality food and service and rewarded for providing some of the best curries in the country.

Since opening its doors in September, Indian “streatery” and cocktail bar Dhoom has received recognition for its authentic tapas style food and its surroundings, which saw seats being replaced with swings.

Owner Dhaneshwar Prasad was delighted with the latest recognition.

“We were the best newcomer in the country so especially within five months, it has been more than our expectation,” he said.

“It is a big recognition to get a national award.

“The good thing is we are getting a lot of travellers from Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow coming to see the place. When you get this kind of national award, it gives you more energy to boost things.”

Basil owner owner Parsuram Sigdel, known as Ram, was equally pleased with their success.

“We are very happy and all the staff are happy,” he said. “It is great people are appreciating what we are doing.”
