THERE are development proposals for a site in north Dunfermline that Fife Council says can accommodate up to 900 new homes.

A primary school is also mooted for the Swallowdrum site and local residents will get the chance to have their say this week.

The site is to the north of Carnock Road and drop-in events outlining the early plans will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) and on Tuesday, May 28 at the Baldridgeburn Community Centre between 3pm and 7pm.

A major planning in principle application is set to be submitted and consultants Ironside Farrar say the two sessions are part of the developers’ efforts to understand community views on the project.

The area at Swallowdrum has been identified in the FIFEPlan, the council’s guide as to what can be built and where, as an area for housing development where up to 900 homes could be built.

It is unclear exactly how many homes are included in the current proposals.

Milesmark and Baldridge Community Council chairperson, Ian Baxter, said they were keen to see the proposals in detail and gather the views of residents.

“With the next community council meeting due at the end of May, it will obviously feature as a major area for discussion,” he said.

“Whilst this is a major planned development in the community, there are already developments either taking place – at the former Bankview Caravan Site – or planned – at Fife Council’s transport yard which is also out for consultation.

“It is important that the individual applications are studied in detail, but also how all these developments impact on the existing community – the road infrastructure is already under pressure, education facilities for all ages and health services, especially doctors surgeries that do not exist in the west of Dunfermline.

“Until these plans are formalised, there is little we can do but encourage people to attend the public meetings to make their views known.”
