STUDENTS of all ages are displaying their art at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries in a special exhibition.

More than 60 people currently take part in community classes across West Fife from the youngest student aged 15 to the oldest at 81.

Tutor Carol McLinden holds sessions at Inverkeithing, Queen Anne and Dunfermline high schools, as well as Duloch Leisure Centre throughout the week, and now the pupils are displaying their work in an exhibition that opened on Sunday.

Evelyn Wells, 81, from Dunfermline, attends classes at Queen Anne and said: “Carol is such a helpful teacher and really encouraging because she is not in any way judgemental.”

Carol said: “Some have just begun their journey, whilst others have been attending since I started tutoring the classes, almost 20 years ago!

“Classes are fun and there is a great social aspect for many of them. They also learn new things, not only from me but from each other too.

“I’m grateful to curator, Gillian Parsons at ONFife Cultural Trust for her help in providing space at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries until Sunday July 21. I’ve been trying to get a venue for the past few years to showcase their work.”

Gillian added: “We’re delighted to be hosting this vibrant and colourful display of artwork, we’ve managed to fit 82 pieces into the Community Gallery making this the biggest display in the space since the venue reopened.”

Alan Chalmers who attends classes at Queen Anne, said: “This is a great opportunity for truly amateur artists to have their work brought to the public’s notice. To many, this is the first time since school that we have picked up the pencil or brush to try different artistic styles, and the guidance and encouragement of our tutor has given us the confidence to participate in this exhibition.”
