HIS day job may be spent fighting crime but a Dunfermline police officer is preparing for a Saturday dust-up – all in aid of charity.

Danny Clarke, who is based at Dunfermline Police Station, is swapping the beat for the ring at an Art of Combat (AOC) Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) night at the Alhambra Theatre.

The event, which will see UFC star Stevie Ray top the bill in a submission-only contest with Fife’s only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu professor Darren Clark, returns four years after it last graced the Alhambra stage.

A fight card with more than a dozen eagerly-anticipated bouts includes 33-year-old Danny, who is also a member of Dunfermline Rugby Club, facing Edinburgh’s Enzo Parente in aid of the Young Minds mental health charity.

Danny, who has so far raised £1,600, said: “Enzo and his family lost their daughter, Lana, recently and was looking to raise awareness and money for children’s mental health in her memory, and I thought, ‘Let’s do it’.

“It’s good to raise awareness, especially with mental health being an absolutely massive part of life just now, and it’s trying to let folk know that there is help out there, don’t keep things to yourself and ask for help.

“Enzo has been very supportive and he’s over the moon with the amount of money and awareness we’ve raised. The support from the community has been fantastic.”
