DUNFERMLINE’S Outwith Festival will take place from September 3 to 8.

After last year's success, an extra day has been added to the programme which will bring art, music, literature, comedy, film and theatre to the town.

And there's a special preview and chance to be part of this year's six-day festival on Friday May 10.

Members of the public, as well as artists, performers, volunteers and people with venues are invited to Fire Station Creative between 5.30 and 7.30pm.

The open event is designed to build on the festival's already strong local talent with the final deadline for submissions on Friday June 7.

Chris Foote, events manager with Dunfermline Delivers, said: “We’re stepping up a gear again this year; we’re talking to various musicians with a Scotland-wide profile and working with funders to expand the festival further.

"We want Outwith to be a mainstay of Scotland’s events calendar – ambitious and celebrating all that Dunfermline has to offer.”

The arts festival is organised by Dunfermline Delivers, in conjunction with Fire Station Creative, culture magazine Avocado Sweet and publishing consultancy Write Rammy.

One of the volunteer organisers is Tom Freeman, an actor and writer who programmed the theatre line up.

He’s helped Outwith support emerging talents such as Dunfermline playwright and performer Kazia Grycuk, who, in 2018, premiered Deli Girls, a brilliant comedy set in the deli counter of Asda.

The focus is on creating a fun and interesting programme that attracts audiences.

It's hoped economic benefits will then follow and benefit the town centre and its businesses.

Last year's Outwith Festival attracted over 7,100 attendances over the five days with total spending by festival goers put at £215,000.

Research undertaken during the event reported a large increase in footfall and a marketing campaign, aimed at attracting visitors from Fife and beyond, is now underway.
