IT WAS the end of the road for one Oakley man after he was caught driving while banned for the fourth time.

Ryan Docherty already had four convictions for driving while disqualified – despite never actually having a full licence.

He received a four-month prison sentence and collected another driving ban when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Docherty, 36, of Sir George Bruce Road, had admitted that on April 2, on Turnstone Road, Dunfermline, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said the offence took place at around 9.40am, when police officers stopped the vehicle because they noticed the rear exhaust was missing.

Checks showed that Docherty was a disqualified driver and had no insurance.

Solicitor Ian Beatson said it had been a “completely stupid thing to do” on his client’s part.

“He appreciates the situation he has put himself in,” he told the court. “He seems to have some sort of obsession in relation to vehicles.

“For whatever stupid reason, he decided to move the vehicle. He appreciates the court will take an extremely dim view of what he has done.

“He is old enough to know better now and he appreciates he should have known better. It was impulsive on his part.”

Sheriff Charles Macnair said Docherty had never had a full driving licence and had four previous convictions of driving while disqualified as well as a number of driving without a licence

“You knew perfectly well you were not supposed to get behind the wheel of a vehicle,” he told him.

“You have been convicted, albeit I accept some time ago, for similar offending for which you received custodial sentences.

“There was no excuse whatsoever for you to be behind the wheel of the vehicle and you are a person who despite never having lawfully driven a vehicle, you continue to do so.

“In the circumstances, I am entirely satisfied that the only appropriate sentence is one of imprisonment."

He jailed him for four months and banned him from driving for four years.
