TWO West Fife eateries have proved they are the cream of the crop after being recognised at a national awards ceremony.

The Carnock Inn and Ghillies Restaurant – situated in Rosyth's Gothenburg Hotel – were named in the top 20 best restaurants at the 2019 Restaurant Awards – Scottish Edition at a glitzy evening in Glasgow's Marriott Hotel.

The event sets out to showcase restaurants that provide world-class service to their customers and lead the way in serving unique flavours and gastronomic delights.

Dougie Collin, who with wife Elaine took over the Carnock Inn just 13 months ago, was delighted with the achievement.

"We went through with no expectations – the last time we got an award it was the East Regional but this was the whole of Scotland so was a far bigger pool of people.

"We went through for a meal and a night out and there was no expectation and we were pleasantly surprised.

"The article in the Dunfermline Press in April highlighted the fact that West Fife restaurants were well represented in the top 100 and for two of us to come out of that and go into the top 20 is a fair reflection of what is on offer."

Gillies Restaurant's general manager, Jade Harley, said: "There were hundreds of entries and even to get nominated was amazing and to find we were in the top 100 and then the top 20 was amazing," she said. "We were happy enough to be nominated but to get the top award was amazing.

"We have been here nearly five years now and we know the building had a bit of an unfavourable reputation before we came over. It has been really hard work to build up the reputation so to get the recognition was even better."
