OWNERS of Shop Local off Dunfermline's Appin Crescent are proposing to turn part of the corner shop into a salon.

If plans are approved, the general store and newsagents would be accessed from Couston Street while the entrance for the beauty salon would be at Appin Crescent.

The space would be walled off to create two separate businesses and the new door would be in place of an existing window, which will also have a steel shutter.

Shop local is below residential flats and is also part of the Dunfermline conservation area.

The application has attracted some objections.

Neighbour Gordon Loudon believes a steel shutter is unnecessary and will put pressure on traffic in the already busy area.

He said: "The installation of an ugly and unsightly steel shutter is completely inappropriate in a conservation area.

"Even for a residential road it will look awful and make the entrance to the street seem crime-ridden and unsafe."

Sandra Watson also had the same concerns, stating: "a resounding NO from me", in her comments.

A couple who live above the shop premises, Mr and Mrs King, did not object to the plans but were concerned about noise levels already impacting them as well as a lack of parking spaces.
