May is a busy month in Brighton.

The Great Escape, Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe all take place at this time and this means the city is swarming with thousands of locals and tourists who love theatre, arts and music.

This page features some of the best of these respective festivals – plus even more content from across the city.

1. Perfect parade

The Argus:

The Children’s Parade is one of the major talking points of the @brightonfestival.

Every year thousands of children, parents and teachers walk through the streets of the city, bringing the centre to a near standstill.

This year there were the usual amazing outfits and costumes as well as brilliant sculptures.

The theme was folk tales from across the world and schools across the city rose to the occasion, producing a brilliantly colourful spectacle, above.

2. Ska stars

The Argus:

Brighton Festival got under way this week and The Skints, including frontwoman @marciaskints, prepared for a special celebration of ska performance

3. Great Escape

The Argus:

The Great Escape Festival has rolled into town and bands from across the world are coming to Brighton in their droves. One band who haven’t had to travel far is @gaffatapesandy who are eager to shine at their hometown show

4. Warren wonders

As part of Brighton Fringe @thewarrenbrighton held its grand opening last week. The venue is hugely popular with festival goers and creates a welcoming atmosphere

5. Be together

The Argus:

The @visit.brighton has captured the vibe that runs through the city in May. With Great Escape, Brighton Festival and Fringe taking place, the city really comes alive

6. Picturesque Pier

The Argus:

This is a brilliant shot of the @brightonpalacepier. There may have been some editing to it but that only adds to its mystery and brilliance. The structure is instantly recognisable and is, of course, the subject of many Instagram posts

7. Seagull star and his pup

The Argus:

Even footballers need some downtime and Seagulls striker @florinandone11 likes nothing more than popping into JB’s Diner on Brighton seafront with his adorable puppy to get a coffee and maybe a bite to eat. Don’t they make a cute couple?

8. Stunning St Peter's

The Argus:

St Peter’s Church may have scaffolding on the outside but the inside still looks amazing. It’s always worth it to pop in and see. @elle_limebear took this picture

9. Simple snapshot

The Argus:

Performer @hclaytonwright took this great picture and posted it on Instagram. It is dark and mysterious and has some fantastic lighting behind it – we think it is one the finest photos we have featured on this page

10. Colour coordination

Colour co-ordination is always a big hit on Instagram and this bright pair have gone all out to match their outfits and the backdrop. The @shopfluffy Instagram page shows the women dressed in some funky disco style outfits as they stand by one of the rides on the Brighton Palace Pier. Could you pull off clothing like this?
