THE Vine Conference Centre could be the new premises for Dunfermline's driving test centre, it has emerged.
The Driving & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) say they are looking to start testing from the venue at Garvock Hill in June, but it is yet to be confirmed and no exact start date has been given.
Reported in today's Press, the current test centre at Pitreavie Drive will close in just two weeks time on May 31, despite previous commitments to keep it open until July.
However, talks between the DVSA and the landlord failed to buy more time and the lease was not extended.
The DVSA now look like they have secured premises to ensure testing can continue in Dunfermline, but the impact has already been felt by local driving instructors, who told the Press they have already lost pupils due to the chaos (read more in today's Press).
Dunfermline MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville said: “It's great news that the Vine Conference Centre has stepped in to save our local driving test service.
“This is an essential service to local people, so I’m delighted that action has been taken so quickly to arrange alternative premises.
“It’s important that DVSA now takes every possible step to ensure as smooth a transition as possible as they move, to prevent disruption to testing.”
