THE mastermind behind Six By Nico has announced he is to close his recently-launched gastropub in the West End of Glasgow.

Chef Nico Simeone has revealed he is to open another venture in its place.

The Hebridean Scottish gastropub will open at 333 Great Western Road this summer, just six months after Public House By Nico launched in the same unit, formerly home to The Mallard.

Where Public House by Nico sought to bring the British gastropub with a twist to city diners, The Hebridean will offer locally-sourced, simply-cooked food, all served with Highland flair.

Glasgow restaurant review: Great food and great service - despite there being just two staff members on

The news of the opening comes after Nico scavenged the Outer Hebrides in search of the finest ingredients to take centre stage here in Glasgow.

The menu offering will be steeped in the values of the Hebrides, he said, and The Hebridean will open just close to the “teuchter triangle” - the social centre of island life in Glasgow’s West End.

Nico, along with his executive chef, Andy Temple, recently travelled from the “Butt of Lewis to Barra Head,” learning about unique cultures and offerings.

Nico said: “The Hebridean Isles are truly otherworldly.

“Since first visiting the Isles, rich in their own unique cultures and offerings, we have been inspired to open an establishment where we can champion the best of the Isles rich produce.

“The Hebridean will be a neighbourhood gastropub that will offer an honest approach to cooking with Hebridean produce at its heart.

“I am extremely excited to showcase this to our guests and I have no doubt that they will fall in love with these breathtaking Islands - just as we did.”

The 60-cover gastropub, with separate bar area, will open six days a week serving lunch and dinner across one floor.

Public House by Nico will close on Sunday, June 23 and The Hebridean will be introduced on June 28.
