A FORMER soldier told police officers he wanted to kill people when they confronted him in a Dunfermline street.

Bryan McDowall, 25, of Logie Place, Dunfermline, told the police to stay away from him after he shouted and gesticulated at them.

McDowall appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on May 14, at Golfdrum Street, Dunfermline, he was shouting, swearing and making threats of violence.

He was already on a community payback order which he has breached twice.

Depute fiscal Katherine Fraser said a police vehicle was travelling along Golfdrum Street and passed McDowall, who gesticulated at the officers shouting: “F****** w******”.

When the officers got out of their vehicle, McDowall ran off.

When he was tracked down, he shouted: “Get to f*** away from me. I want to kill c****.” He was then arrested.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said:, “He does not have a great recollection of events.”

He said his client now wanted to rejoin the army having previously served in the ‘4 Scots’ battalion. He added that his client had not enjoyed his period on remand.

Sheriff Charles MacNair told McDowall: “I’m not convinced 4 Scots would be improved by your presence but that’s not a matter for me.”

He imposed a community payback order with 135 hours of unpaid work and another 50 hours for breaching his earlier court order.

McDowall was previously put on a community payback order for making drunken threats to a caretaker at Broomhead flats.
