A MAN working in Charlestown made an "unusual find" as he discovered a large skeleton washed up on the beach.
David Smallman was left stunned last Wednesday morning after spotting the remains of what he believes could be a rare sturgeon fish.
He's eager to hear from experts who could now help him identify the creature.
He said: "I found an animal skeleton washed up on the north beach of the estuary in Charlestown.
"I believe that this could be a sturgeon. These fish are very, very rare in British waters and are a highly-treasured type of fish.
"A chunk is missing off its rear. However, I estimate that the full length would be at least two metres.
"I’ve posted it on a few identification forums but to no success.
"It’s certainly a very unusual find and certainly appears out of place in Scottish waters.
"I noticed it on my way down onto the beach after I walked down a bank full of vegetation."
