Dunfermline band Moonlight Zoo has bagged $15,000 after winning a global competition in New York City.

Representing the town and the nation, the local heroes made their winning performance in front of leading music industry executives to take the prize at the global Hard Rock Cafe Battle of the Bands competition.

The four-piece navigated their way through the Glasgow heat of the competition and a public vote demonstrated their talent and popularity as they were confirmed as one of the final three acts to progress to perform at competition organisers Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square.

Moonlight Zoo said before jetting off to NYC: "A massive thank you to Hard Rock for this incredible opportunity, and most importantly to every one of you for the unbelievable support - we couldn't have done it without you!”

Sean (Defrancesco), Jamie (Adamson), Aly (O’Mahoney) and Reece (Dobbin) took to the Big Apple stage on Friday, June 21, performing a 30-minute set.

They were up against two other acts from Nashville (USA) and Curitiba (Brazil) with the winner decided by a panel of judges.

The Dunfermline Press Live Music award winners of 2015 flew out two days before the gig and were determined to make a statement of intent when they played at the iconic former Paramount Theatre.

The band’s Sean Defrancesco previously told the Press: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us.

“Winning this could be career-changing.

“It’s an incredible feeling. We’re immensely proud of making it to the final.

“This is the biggest opportunity we’ve ever had, and we’re going to go out there and do everything we can to win.

"We could not have made it to this stage in our careers without the unbelievable support from the people who have listened to our music, specifically the people from Dunfermline."
