AN ALCOHOLIC has been sentenced to 12 months' supervision after "nuisance" behaviour in Asda St Leonard's.

Paul Reid, of 41, of New Row, previously admitted that on June 30, at Asda Superstore, St Leonard's Street, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that he refused to leave the premises when requested to do so, shouted and swore and refused to desist.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said her client has long-standing issues with alcohol.

"It appears for the first time in many years he has taken it upon himself to admit himself to a residential rehabilitation facility," she said.

"He would be required to be at liberty to do that.

"He can keep himself out of the courts for long period of time but then commits offences that could be described as nuisance behaviour."

Sheriff Paul Reid said: "I will impose a community payback order with 12 months' supervision. I know you might be reluctant to do that but it's in your best interest to comply."
