MEMBERS of the public have been warned to stay away from Silver Sands beach at Aberdour after an "unknown" pollutant was found.

A post on RNLI Lifeguards Scotland Facebook page issued an urgent public notice earlier today (Saturday).

They stated: "Due to an unknown pollutant being released into the sea, it is vital we inform all members of the public to not step foot on the sand or in the sea due to high risks of contamination!"

A sign has been placed at the beach warning the public to avoid contact with the beach and water and not to take anything home from the beach.
